What is the PCI SAQ (Self Assessment Questionnaire?)

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of requirements designed to ensure that all companies that process, store, and transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment. To ensure safety for merchants and their customers, the Payment Card Industry has now made it mandatory for all business owners who accept credit cards as payment to complete and pass the PCI Compliance Questionnaire. The questionnaire asks detailed questions to ensure merchants are taking the necessary precautions when handling customer’s financial and personal information. The Questionnaire is to be completed annually and is billed automatically from your merchant account. Any merchant that does not complete the questionnaire or is found to be noncompliant could face severe penalties and fines.

 

Tips for being Compliant!

To be PCI Compliant and to ensure your customer’s financial and personal information are safe, use these tips as a guide.

1: Make sure that cardholder data is stored and locked cabinets or in safes. 

2: Passwords and keys should be given to managerial positions in the company.

3:  Use a firewall and antivirus on a computer that you use for your virtual terminal.

4: Shred all documents that contain personal information.

5:  Do not store the card-validation code (three-digit or four-digit number printed on the front or back of a payment card) used to verify card-not-present transactions.
